Across the street, at Marina 254, a flat looks right at it.

Third floor, street window, with the Sagrada Família in front. How much sun does it get? We measure it with a 3D model of the whole block, at centimetre scale.

On 21 June, at 18:40, its sun runs out. Not because of the temple: the block across the street.

From then on, no more direct sun that day. No listing says so, and a midday viewing won't show it.

Window onto Carrer de la Marina
Light well

Same flat. One window gets twice as much sun as the other.

Every window has its own sundial. A viewing only shows you one hour of one day. Each dial is what the window sees: at the edge, whatever stands in front of it (for the street window, the Sagrada Família); towards the centre, the sky. The ochre arc is the sun when it comes in. Change the day and the time.

We measure what your window sees.

Using ICGC LiDAR we rebuild every building and tree around the flat. From the window we cast a ray in every direction until it hits something: that's its horizon. Then we run the sun of all 365 days across it.

How we measure it

Sun coming in
The view from the south-west-facing window of the flat at Carrer de la Marina 254. The skyline opposite is its horizon, measured with LiDAR; the sun follows its real path and, when it clears the buildings, comes into the flat.

What a viewing doesn't show you about a flat.

We measure the sun on every window ourselves, with LiDAR. The rest we gather from the official sources for that flat, each figure with its source and date. These are the figures from the sample report for la Marina 254.

Frequently asked questions.

What exactly is “direct sun”?

The sun lighting the outside centre of the window with nothing in the way. The brightness of an overcast day or light bouncing off the building opposite doesn't count.

How much does the report cost?

€19 where there's LiDAR (Catalonia, Navarre and the Basque Country) and €12 in the rest of Spain, VAT included. Pay by card or Bizum, no account or subscription, and the report arrives in a couple of minutes. There is a pack of 3 reports that works out cheaper per report.

Does it work in Madrid, Valencia and outside Barcelona?

Yes, everywhere in Spain, including Navarre and the Basque Country. In Madrid, Valencia and the rest of Spain the report costs €12 and the sun is calculated from the Cadastre's buildings, a simpler model: it's indicative, with a typical error of 20 to 40 min a day, and we tell you before you pay. Where we measure with LiDAR (Catalonia, Navarre and the Basque Country) it costs €19, with the margin of each resolution. For Madrid (125 neighbourhoods) and Valencia (79) there is also a free page for each neighbourhood and street with the indicative winter-sun scale: Sunlight by neighbourhood in Madrid and Sunlight by neighbourhood in Valencia.

What if I don't know which way the flat's windows face?

Tick “I don't know” and we'll calculate every side of the building for the same price. In the report you'll see each one by name: the street or the inner courtyard.
